Delving into the origins of this mythic tale, Haynes revitalizes and reconstructs Medusa's story with her passion and fierce wit, offering a timely retelling of this classic myth that speaks to us today. In Stone Blind, classicist and comedian Natalie Haynes turns our understanding of this legendary myth on its head, bringing empathy and nuance to one of the earliest stories in which a woman-injured by a powerful man-is blamed, punished, and monstered for the assault. Until Perseus embarks upon a fateful quest to fetch the head of a Gorgon. Cursed with the power to destroy all she loves with one look, Medusa condemns herself to a life of solitude. Writhing snakes replace her hair and her gaze will turn any living creature to stone. Punished for Poseidon's actions, Medusa is forever transformed. Furious by the violation of her sacred space, Athene takes revenge-on the young woman. When the sea god Poseidon assaults Medusa in Athene's temple, the goddess is enraged. Her mortal lifespan gives her an urgency that her family will never know. Unlike her siblings, Medusa grows older, experiences change, feels weakness. The only mortal in a family of gods, Medusa is the youngest of the Gorgon sisters. They will fear you and flee you and call you a monster. A fresh take on the story of Medusa, the original monstered woman.

It seems that other BSAA operatives have been unsuccessful in their attempts to thwart Lucas: "Can Chris save the team while also tracking down Lucas through perilous poison gas filled dungeons?"ĭecember 12th also sees the launch of Capcom's final bit of season pass story content, End of Zoe. Not a Hero, says Capcom, takes place "after the horrific events that befell Ethan Winters in Resident Evil 7 Biohazard Chris is on the hunt for Lucas Baker to bring an end to the Baker tragedy once and for all". Our aim is for this content to match the high quality of the main game, so we need more development time in order to achieve that goal." In April, however, Resident Evil 7's director, producer, and executive producer, released a video announcing its delay, explaining that, "in the light of the incredible reception to the release of Resident Evil 7, we concluded that was not good enough to meet those high expectations. Not a Hero, which gained notoriety earlier this year for its inclusion of a curiously misshapen Chris Redfield, was originally expected to release in spring 2017. Both have been given a brand-new airing in Capcom's latest DLC video. Resident Evil 7's long-delayed - and free - Not a Hero DLC will finally reach PS4, Xbox One, and PC on December 12th, along with the concluding season pass story episode End of Zoe. Best of all, the package let’s you write your prose in Org mode.įerguson has a short announcement on reddit but to really get a feeling for what the package is about and what it can do, take a look at the README on his GitHub repository. Ferguson’s package is intended to help with that. Similarly, ideas may occur to the author that don’t involve whatever part of the story is currently being worked on and a way of capturing those notes is needed. A full-blown novel can have several minor characters and locales that are hard for the author to keep track of. John Urquhart Ferguson is another writer who uses Emacs and he’s written a package, Org Novelist, to make the note taking and story organization easier. Emacs has superb editing and linking capabilities that makes writing and organizing a piece of prose easier than it would be with most other writing platforms. That may seem like an edge case but there are plenty of writers who write their novels with Emacs, including such A-list writers as Vernor Vinge and Neal Stephenson. One such aspect that I always enjoy reading about is using Emacs for creative writing, by which I mean novels, short stories, poetry, and the like. As many of you know, I’m fascinated by those who use Emacs for projects that don’t involve science or engineering. ‘The Little Mermaid’ Makeup Artist Responds to Criticism About Drag Influences: ‘Why Can’t I Do as Good a Job as a Queer Artist?’ĭisney plans a fall 2021 release, five years after cameras captured the musical’s cast (and two weeks before the end of its run with the original cast). While the reported $75 million winning bid may have been the largest-ever price paid for a single film acquisition, Disney is not in the one-offs business it signals a deal that could mean much more. The target? The hearts and minds of America, and the world, as part of that thing every studio executive wants: hilariously lucrative branded IP.Īnd that’s why Disney, perhaps the most skillful tactician of milking cultural touchstones for profit, would pay such an enormous sum for the worldwide rights of a filmed version of the stage production. The modern retelling of founding father Alexander Hamilton’s life is a full-blown cultural phenomenon, one that has rolled out like a well-planned military campaign. Then there were the albums, remixed songs featuring the likes of Barack Obama, and the endless media coverage. It went on to gross $500 million, won 11 Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize, and was staged for three US tours, a production in London’s West End, and one in Chicago. After Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical “ Hamilton” opened in New York in 2015, getting your hands on tickets became a near-impossible feat. Lauren-Kate is also working on a third book in her series and hopes to have it completed soon. Her pet cat, Fluffy, was the inspiration for the cat in her stories. She declares that the burial traditions are the unwritten laws of the gods, and are more important than the decrees of one man. Oedipus's daughters, Antigone and Ismene, are grieving for the loss of their two brothers, but Antigone is also defiant. Creon further decrees that anyone who does try to bury Polynices will be punished with death. He decrees that the body of Polynices, who fought against his native city, will not be given burial rites but will be left to rot, as a warning to traitors. Their uncle, Creon, is now king of Thebes. As the play begins, the invading army of Argos has been driven from Thebes, but in the course of the battle, two sons of Oedipus (Eteocles and Polynices) have died fighting for opposing sides. Some people loved it, some people hated it. I had heard some things that were pretty much on opposite sides of the spectrum. TRIGGER WARNING: Self-Harm, Rape Mention. Rather, alienation moved from the workplace to the marketplace and is now defined by the fact that the whole of an individual’s life is structured according to the needs of the production and accumulation of capital. However, for Debord, this improvement in work conditions did not translate to the disappearance of alienated labor. While previous periods of capitalist development saw the hyper-exploitation of workers, the period of capitalism after WWII saw an improvement in labor conditions for greater numbers of workers in society. Guy Debord’s 1967 philosophy text, The Society of the Spectacle, analyzes the phenomena of alienation and argues that alienation’s root cause is located within the economic, political, and cultural spheres of modern society. There’s little variation in color saturation and therefore no visual relief or fixed point of focus. Such dizzying inclusion makes sense in a book about how we’re inextricably bound together in this kooky world, but readers might feel adrift in these busy, sometimes murky pictures. Energy zigzags across the illustrations, showing each teeming locale, rendered jaggedly and joyfully. Indefatigable linework (in pencil, water soluble crayon and watercolor) encourages readers to explore every corner of the page, from every angle.
